SamiArt - 'Inspire & Share Through Creative Communication'
SamiArt in Schools

Here is an example of a SamiArt silk painting 1 Day Workshop experience for Year 8 pupils at Greenacre School in collaboration with Karin Jashapara's Play of Light.
I aim to encourage as much collaborative work as possible with the onus of decision making on the participants themselves. They are encouraged to communicate with respect for each others ideas and reach group decisions at all stages of creating work from layout to colour choices and technical details like spacing, measuring, placement and to think about how the painting will be hung and where it will be displayed.
Given the responsibility, it is astonishing how much taller people stand...such a wonderful sense of achievement they feel within themselves and that effect ripples out and could well last a lifetime.

YEAR 5 and YEAR 6 - create SILK FLAGS for their CLASSROOMS...2 Hours, 2 Classes, 38 degree heat...thank goodness for air-con
All ages respond well to being given the responsibility to make decisions and the space to share their ideas and to inspire one another. It is crucial they are given the opportunity to do so as it does wonders on so many levels but especially for their self esteem.
With this group, only one person spoke up against the overall design idea...he felt that it was dull to always focus on PEACE. I prompted the group to discuss the options and a positive solution was reached in a fun way - everyone was happy and he had space to express his individuality without fear. Job done!
